Grunkle Stan is actually saving money for Dipper and Mabel’s college funds.
I saw this way back in season 1 and this is what I thought “AWE! This would be so cute, but I doubt it’s true”
And now after A Tale Of Two Stans I’m thinking this actually makes a lot of sense. He’s the reason Ford didn’t get to go to his dream school and this time he wants to be the reason Dipper and Mabel do get to go to their dream schools.

Very true. Similarly, Mabel has gone on mystery hunts with Dip, and has taken interest in the journal (which more times than not she probably wouldn’t have cared much about otherwise) because Dipper was into it.
So it seems to me like Dipper is willing to do girly stuff with Mabel, as long as it’s not outside his comfort zone, and Mabel is willing to nerdy stuff with Dipper, as long as it’s not outside her comfort zone. Examples: Willingly getting a makeover from Mabel=outside Dipper’s comfort zone. Mabel playing a game that requires lots of math that’s probably really hard for her=outside her comfort zone.
