When Ford was accidentally knocked into the portal all those many years ago, he, at the time, was already furious with Bill Cipher -he knew he had tricked him. And Ford’s plan to stop Bill was to shut down the portal and bury all the journals. But since he got knocked in by his brother he couldn’t do his plan and now he is in this strange multiverse- Bill-universe- where Bill and Bill’s strange kind resign. So, while he was in the portal- in the other dimension- Ford had a mission. He had to learn how to survive in the other dimension, he had to create or invent some kind of weapon and he was planning on using it to destroy Bill. While Ford was off in this other dimension he saw many weird characters and encountered friends and rivals and became something of an outlaw. Bill and his henchmen wanted to capture Ford so interestingly enough- Grunkle Stan was a criminal in our dimension but Ford was essentially a criminal in the other dimension. There are “WANTED” posters all across the multiverse with pictures of young Grunkle Ford, saying “find this guy dead or alive, give him to Bill” and you’ll see what that looks like in the Journal.
