Something to keep in mind that’s going to be important

pinesonfire:

Mabel is the only person in the cast who knows who Dipper was before he found the journal.

And that includes the audience. 5 minutes after we first meet the kid and he’s already found Journal 3 in the woods. We don’t know what his home life or school life is like. We don’t know what his relationship with his parents is like. Neither does Stan, Ford, Soos, Wendy or anyone else in Gravity Falls.

But Mabel does.

She’s the one to assure him he’s a hero with or without the journal. Because she’s known him her whole life, she knows what he’s capable of, and she knows he doesn’t need the journal’s validation because she sees it in him every day.

Now, not only did Dipper obsessively want the journal back, but we have the Author himself thrown into the mix. Dipper is clinging to that validation more desperately than ever. And that’s really starting to scare Mabel. Dipper’s become lost in himself and she can’t pull him back down to earth. She can’t make him remember all of his good qualities he prided himself on prior to investigating Gravity Falls: His bravery, his loyalty, his selflessness, everything he doesn’t need that journal for because that’s just the twin brother she knows and loves. If anything he’s become way more selfish since finding the journal and realizing “Ha! Look at me go, I was right!” He’s put the whole town–his family–in harm’s way many times just to prove a point. He’s become someone Mabel no longer recognizes.

More to the point, think about this next time you accuse Mabel of antagonizing Dipper. She knows him better than any of us. Yes, sometimes she takes her teasing too far, but other times she teases him because she knows he’s taking himself too seriously. She’s knows he’s being ridiculous at times and is trying to get him to laugh at himself. Because she knows him better than anyone. Even better than he knows himself.

Everyone, including us as viewers, only know Dipper over the course of this one summer. Mabel’s known him for almost 13 years. They grew up together. She’s privy to more things about Dipper, even certain things they’ve agreed to not talk about. Because that’s what being close siblings is about. You keep things between each other that not even your parents are aware of. You gain each other’s trust that way. You gain a better understanding of exactly who someone is in that way.

Mabel ain’t no angel. But she’s the one who’s going to save Dipper from himself. Because she’s the only one who can.

Worth noting that Alex did at one point confirm that Mabel teases Dipper when he’s being too serious, his head has gotten a little too big, or he’s not acting his age (meaning acting older than he is)

What’d you wanna bet Dipper and Ford are taking selfies the entire episode?

Headcannon: Stan’s top 10 biggest fears

ifbrd:

10. Heights. While this fear is nowhere near as bad as it was, if he gets high enough, he’ll still get a bit nervous
9. Mabel Juice (“it’s like coffee and nightmares had a baby”)
8. Getting arrested (again)
7. Bankruptcy
6. He’ll fail whatever he is working on under the Shack
5. Bill Cipher
4. The twins don’t really love him
3. Dipper will end up just like him.
2. The twins will get hurt or killed (disappearing is also included) by something he CAN’T stop
1. The twins will get hurt or killed (again, disappearing is included in this) by something he COULD HAVE stopped

I posted this a year ago and I think it needs to be updated.

let’s changed #6 to “He’ll never amount to anything” since he’s now succeeded with the portal, but this is clearly something that’s bothering him and has been bothering him his whole life

let’s change #5 to “Ford will never forgive him for the science fair incident” because it seems like Stan has never had any interaction with Bill, but this is probably a fear of his

and let’s change #3 to “Mabel and Dipper will end up just like him and Ford” because it simply makes more sence

Also, let’s add Ford to #2 and #1,

There are two things the rest of the fandom thinks are going to happen in Dipper and Mabel vs the Future that I disagree with.

1. I don’t think there will be aliens in the episode. I think aliens will be talked about, considering how Ford dramatically shows Dipper the cliffs that just happen to be shaped like a UFO

I think it’s likely that we will see how aliens have impacted Gravity Falls, but I don’t think we’ll actually see any aliens in DAMVTF. My reasoning is this interview with Alex from 2012. At one point he states “Probably the only rule I have for the writers’ room is ‘no aliens’—at
least not until our second-to-last episode, just because nothing is
bigger.”

I’m not the first to remind everyone that this can’t be the last episode (or second to last episode) because after this episode airs we will still have 4 more cards left of that page thing with the Stans’ faces on it. (I hope everyone knows what I’m talking about because I don’t know how else to describe it, I don’t know if there’s an actually name for it, an I don’t have a picture of it) So we have a few more episodes before we’re likely to see any aliens, but they will probably be foreshadowed in DAMVTF and a short plot line with aliens will probably start in this episode too (if an aliens plot line hasn’t started already and I just haven’t picked  up on it)

2. I also don’t think this episode will take place on Dipper and Mabel birthday. I can hear you all saying to your computer/phone/ipod/tablet screens “What is she talking about? This entire episode is about their birthday.” Let me explain my thinking.

The description for the birthday side of this episode says “Mabel decides to plan for her and Dipper’s 13th birthday party.“ the keyword here is plan. It says nothing about their being a party or celebration of any kind. In the trailers, Mabel is handing out invitations, you never see any evidence of there being an actually party. The only part that looks like a party is here

It looks festive, there’s balloons, a pinata, etc, however, the room is labeled “B-DAY PLANNING ZONE” so this isn’t the party.

Also, as stated above, this isn’t the last episode. If their birthday is on the last day of Summer, and this episode takes place on their birthday, what’s supposed to happen the next four episodes? When are they going home?

I know people are going to argue that Mabel’s sweaters mean something, and that she’s wearing a birthday sweater in this episode, but a birthday sweater could also be her way of dressing up for planning the party, that is defiantly something she would do. And I don’t think she’d wear a birthday sweater on her birthday, I think she’d wear her favorite sweater on her birthday. I don’t know about you guys, but I always wear my favorite clothes on my birthday. (I’ll bet you if Mabel does wear her favorite sweater on her birthday, it’ll be the shooting star sweater) Another thing to note is that in one of the trailers Mabel said “We are one week away from our 13th birthday!” an entire week seems like too many days for one single episode to take place, but it seems like a fair amount of time for 5 episodes to take place.
