I don’t really think of anyone in the pines family as being an “asshole.” they all just have problems. bad things have happened to them. they’re in a tricky situation. and their reactions are perfectly reasonable.

would you not be angry if you thought your brother was so jealous of you that he destroyed everything you had worked for and cost you your future? would you not be angry if that same brother got you thrown into a different dimension all alone for 30 years, even if it was an accident?

wouldn’t you feel betrayed if you and your brother were everything to each other and he was the only friend you ever had, and all of the sudden he seemed to forget that you existed and left you and everything you had together behind? wouldn’t you feel terrible having to stand in your brother’s shadow and being treated as worthless by your whole family, only to be disowned and thrown out in the dirt after having done nothing wrong? wouldn’t it feel like shit to spend your whole life and doing everything in your power to get that same brother back, to try and fix the mistake you made, only to have him literally punch you in the face and tell you to get out of his house?

wouldn’t you feel lonely if your best friend, the only friend you really had, found new friends and didn’t spend as much time with you anymore? wouldn’t you feel lonely if you tried to reach out to her and shared something that was important to you, only to be laughed at and left to enjoy it by yourself? wouldn’t it feel bad to be constantly teased by the only people you care about and to feel like you don’t really have anyone to connect to or anyone who shares your interests? wouldn’t it be amazing to feel like you had finally found a friend? found someone who understood you, who shared your interests and appreciated you, someone who you could relate with? wouldn’t you be eager to spend all your time with that person and keep secrets just between the two of you?

wouldn’t you feel bad if your best friend was a genius and you weren’t? wouldn’t it feel bad if they won every game, beat you at every challenge and was better than you at almost everything? wouldn’t it feel awful if they rubbed every single victory in your face, as if you didn’t already feel inadequate all on your own? if that best friend was better than you at math, at strategy, if they were more interested in a game that took constant wit and didn’t require your areas of skill, would you play that game with them? would you exhaust yourself and your self-esteem just to make them happy? would you feel upset if your best friend ditched you to hang out with someone who could get on their level intellectually? would it not be natural to be sad when you realized that you couldn’t compete with someone that made your best friend feel good about themselves? someone who is more exciting to them? wouldn’t you have anxiety if you felt like your best friend was drifting away from you and it was all your fault because you weren’t good enough for them? and you suddenly realized the way you treated them might be causing them to slip out of you grasp?

I don’t think that anything that ford, stan, dipper or mabel has done so far has been a “dick move.” I just think that everyone has problems, but the way they are reacting to those problems is going to get them in a lot of trouble.

gf thoughts :

Everyone is talking about how Maybel didn’t apoligize to her brother but Stanley didn’t apoligize to his brother either.

Also : Ford invited Stanley to play , so does Dipper. But of the nerd twins invited their siblings but neither wanted to play …until their brothers life was at stake.

There’s hope the Stans will make up and Maybel and Dipper will be okay.

Or that whole…..evil twin foreshadowing…..

At the end of the episode-well if you consider dazzling Soos girly lol-he did. And he’s has helped Mabel with things she’s wanted before (guess helping her sew sock puppets for a crush can be called girly lol)

Very true. Similarly, Mabel has gone on mystery hunts with Dip, and has taken interest in the journal (which more times than not she probably wouldn’t have cared much about otherwise) because Dipper was into it.

So it seems to me like Dipper is willing to do girly stuff with Mabel, as long as it’s not outside his comfort zone, and Mabel is willing to nerdy stuff with Dipper, as long as it’s not outside her comfort zone. Examples: Willingly getting a makeover from Mabel=outside Dipper’s comfort zone. Mabel playing a game that requires lots of math that’s probably really hard for her=outside her comfort zone.
