…stop bringing old fan art that don’t have permission back from the dead. Before you Reblog, check if there is a source, check who the original poster is, check the op’s tags – those are all dead giveaways whether or not they are the artist or if they have permission.   

Tips:

When an artist posts their work, ~98% of the time they include a tag like ‘my art’, ‘***’, ‘mine’, or ‘__arts’, to show that it is their work. The post does not have a lot of clutter tags. Sometimes there’ll be a note about what inspired them, or a mention if it’s a commission. There’s also often a watermark (artist’s signature) in the art somewhere.

When a blog reposts fanart without permission, they usually post with a lot of tags, even irrelevant ones (a character from the same show but nowhere in the pic). Watch out for generic tags like (girl, guy, anime, manga, kawaii, cute, pixiv, awesome, amazing, cool, art, drawing, wallpaper, otaku, etc) because then it is almost certain that it’s not the artist. But there are some who will actually use relevant tags, and those can be tricky. Which brings up the next part:

Other ways to spot fanart that isn’t posted with permission:

• all the pictures on the original poster’s blog have different ‘styles’
• all the pictures come from many different animes/series
• their posts sometimes contain simple words or short comments like “cute picture” or “kawaii!!!”
• the posts say something like ‘credit to the artist’
• they post a lot of new images daily and over short period of time
• the description on their blog says something like ‘all images posted are not by me’, or ‘credit to the respective artists’

When in doubt, do not reblog the work until you can check the blog itself.
