Gravity Falls and Other Related Stuff

Will a universal remote work with a dish receiver? How hard is it to set up a universal remote? I mentioned before that my brother broke the remote and the screen is stuck on stretched and I really don’t want the screen all stretched and cut off on the sides when I watch the Gravity Falls finale, I’m hoping if I set up a universal remote I will be able to change it so the screen isn’t stretched.
